Tone Aanderaa was born in Bergen, Norway.
She received her BFA and MFA (1989) from Pratt Institute, New York - and returned to live and work in Hardanger, Norway.
- In Norway, she settled at her old family place by the Hardanger fjord – where she lived and worked for more than twenty years; Painting, writing, and collaborating with many artists and musicians, nationally and internationally

Besides her personal artistic projects, an art school for children and teenagers was established in Jondal, Hardanger (1994).
In 1996 she collaborated in making an Art School, Secondary Level (in Norheimsund)
Also - In collaboration with the artists in the region, 'Harding Puls' – a forum for 'Artists of All Expressions' - was established (1993) - including more than 50 members and growing....(www.hardingpuls.no).

Tone Aanderaa also writes; poetry and stories;
'Det store puslespillet' ('The Big Puzzle') - a Fantasy novel exploring the mysterious mythological era (with a special love of the the art historical point of view) was published 2004, Eide Forlag, Bergen, Norway.

She has seen her paintings animated (Animation being her Second love:);
Flash-animated on the web, and 'traditionally' on DVD and web; See especially: Secret Garden's website: www.secretgarden.no

Exploring the virtual world (SL) resulted in a large and exciting project, 'Art Sanctuary' – (in collaboration with Ignace Clarysse, IT expert and content-builder); Her 'painted world' was animated into a whole magical three-dimensional site, with exhibitions and events visited by people from all over the (real) world.

Since 2008 Tone Aanderaa found herself spending more and more time in Belgium;
A man, a dream, a landscape, and an old teen-age love (Magritte) all seemed to fall into place;
and 'ART SANCTUARY' - as idea and concept - started to manifest;
A large beautiful natural garden was becoming the site of 'New Dreams' - a real Art Sanctuary:

In 2009 she initiated 'The Belgian-Norwegian Collaboration'; an exchange of 12 artists between Belgium and Norway - shown in 2 exhibitions; 'Tone Aanderaa Encounters....' Hardanger Folkemuseum, and 'Belgium Encounters Hardanger' - Hardanger Kulturgalleri. (see website: www.Tone-Aanderaa.com)

In 2009/10 two collections of poetry were published;
'PUST; Fugler puster annerledes' (BREATH; Birds Breathe Differently') and
'Poe-etiske voggesanger – Epistler fra et mørkt fastland' (Poe-Ethical Lullabies – Epistles From a Dark Mainland'), Art Sanctuary, Belgium.

In 2011 ART SANCTUARY 'Enchanted Garden' was Officially Opened: 20 international artists were invited to exhibit in the beautiful garden - situated in Wallonia, Belgium. (www.art-sanctuary.blogspot.com)

- Music has always played an important role in her life, this has also resulted in collaborations with musicians;

- in 2011 a nearly two-year long collaboration with musician Nicky Bendix culminated in a live concert at Art Sanctuary's Official Opening, as well as a collection of Nicky Bendix' composititions being played as a sound installation during the exhibition;

Commissions:
Tone Aanderaa has since -99 worked with the musical group Secret Garden, and her paintings can be seen throughout their website www.secretgarden.no, as well as on the groups's DVD (-99). In collaboration with the animators Lettere Animert her painting Moon Gate was made into an animation (introduction on DVD).
Secret Garden's website also features several Flash animated elements from Tone Aanderaa.'s art work, done in collaboration with the Streaming Media company Tappedinto.
Other commissions include CD covers, posters, design of cultural prizes, etc.
